5 Ways To Get More Water In Every Day

Last week, I wrote the post, “How Much Water Should You Be Drinking A Day“.


I didn’t go into too much detail about how you can get more water in. Today, I want to give you 5 tips on how I get more water in and how these tips may help you as well.

1. Drink Water As Soon As You Wake Up 

This is a HUGE tip. I’ve noticed that if I wait until the middle of the day to consume more water it usually doesn’t happen. I suggest that you drink water as soon as you wake up.

I usually have my 40 oz Hydroflask on my nightstand with water already in it. I fill it up before I go to bed.

As soon as I go to the bathroom, I usually drink as much as I can. I typically drink about 20 ounces as soon as I wake up.

Your body is dehydrated after hours of sleeping. It needs the water. Take a drink. As much as you can to get the day started on the right foot.

2. Drink Water With Every Meal 

This is yet another tip that has been incredibly beneficial to my water consumption.

I try to drink up to 40 ounces total just before, during and after my meal. The water keeps me from overeating and it also keeps me full longer.

3. Use A Water Tracking App

This is a new tip that I’ve been using recently and it’s been helping a lot. I use the app, Waterlogged, which is a water intake app.

It just keeps a record of how much you drink during the course of the day. It’s a great app for me because I will forget how much I drank during the day. Then, I will usually drink less than I should.

It’s a great app and it connects to MyFitnessPal and other health tracking apps.

4. Add Fruit To Your Water 

I have done this in the past. Not as much now but it does help others. Use fruit in your water. A lot of people swear by this technique. I can see why.

It makes your water just a tad flavorful.

Let’s be honest, water can be boring. You need a little something different to keep you interested.

5. Drink Water Every Hour 

The last one is extreme but it works.

Set an alarm for every hour on the hour for the times of day you are awake. Depending on how many waking hours you have, divide the number of ounces you want to drink by the number of hours you have.

Here’s an example: I’m usually awake from 5am until 10pm. No one wants to drink water until they go to bed so let’s change my end time to 8pm. I drink a gallon of water a day.

So, I have 15 hours to drink a gallon of water. 128 ounces divided by 15 hours gives me just over 8 ounces an hour. No hard at all. So, I need to drink just over 8 ounces of water every hour over a 15 hour period.

These are just a few ways I get water in per day. It takes a little effort but water consumption is possible.
