Should You Workout When You’re Sick?

If you don’t follow me on Instagram or Facebook, then you should know that I’ve been sick for a solid week.
It really sucks.

Workout When You're Sick

Being sick really can put a damper on your weight loss goals. You need to be at full energy to put in the effort to lose weight. Instead you’re helping your body fight over the sickness by resting.

But should you workout when you’re sick?

In my opinion I would say no. Here’s why.

Your body is trying to fight off whatever sickness that has attacked your immune system. A lot of your energy will be going towards those efforts.

You really should just rest, drink plenty of fluids and let your body do its job.

If you workout, that energy that your body would have used to fight off your illness will go towards recovering from your workout and fighting your illness at the same time. That means your body will take longer to fight off the sickness.

It’s probably just better that you rest and relax.

Another reason you shouldn’t workout is just being courteous to others health. I wouldn’t want to workout next to someone who is coughing and throwing up next to me. Don’t get someone else sick. Stay home and get better. It’s just the right thing to do.

The time you spend from not working out is a brutal one if you’re like me. You like to workout and the gym is your second home. But you have to get better so you can get right back into the gym.

The best thing to do is rest and get better. The quicker you take the time to rest and let your body heal. The faster it will be that you will be able to get back to the gym and to continue with your goals.

Remember this the next time you think about going to the gym while you are sick. 😷
