I’m sad guys!

I have to say goodbye to one of my favorite magazines, Lucky Peach.

On Saturday, April 29, 2017, Lucky Peach closed their operations down forever.

Lucky Peach was a quarterly food magazine which was much more unique than most of the food magazines out on the newsstands. The magazine was chock full of recipes, interviews, food essays, articles and wild illustrations. Each issue spotlighted a theme from ramen to breakfast and chicken. It launched in June 2011.

I came across the magazine because I was obsessed with the co-creator of the magazine, David Chang. I became obsessed with David Chang because of a little show called, Mind Of A Chef. His season is the first one and it’s all about ramen. It’s great. Watch it on Netflix right now!

David Chang is also the founder of the popular noodle bar, Momofuku. I went to the one in New York and it’s fantastic!

Lucky Peach released 22 issues to date with one more full issue and a best of issue on the way.

I’ve read the magazine since issue 3. I actually spent a week hunting down issues 1 and 2 on eBay and Amazon. I found a slightly used copy of both and I’ll never get rid of either.

That first issue was about ramen. Ramen is the topic that got me interested in David Chang in the first place.

The magazine is well done with recipes, illustrations, and essays. The recipes are so fun!

I’m sad to see Lucky Peach go but it’s the publication that taught me to cook when I first started learning how to cook.

I hope something else comes out from the same team on another project. I really loved the magazine and I’ll probably never find anything of the same caliber.

RIP Lucky Peach. I will miss you!
