Five Things Friday #7

Happy Friday friends!

Another weekend is upon us. How was your week? Mine felt really slow but I felt like I got a lot done. I’m happy that the weekend is here though!

I wanted to share a few things that I’ve enjoyed this week. So let’s get into it!

1. Headspace

For the past year, I’ve been exclusively a user of the 10% Happier app on my iPhone. It’s the first meditation app that I’ve used and stuck with.

Recently, I decided that I wanted to try the other meditation apps that are out. I’ve heard a lot about Headspace and Calm but haven’t used either.

I started using Headspace on Monday and I’m really liking it. The user interface is very easy to navigate. I’m doing he 10 day trial just to see if I want to continue with it.

So far, I’m liking the differences that Headspace offers that 10% Happier didn’t.

Headspace is more fun but less seriously. It’s a bit playful with the colors in the app. 10% Happier is more serious. Very informationally based. Just like a news outlet for meditation.

As I said, I like both but I will keep trying out Headspace for the next few days.

2. EatSmart scale

EatSmart reached out to me via Twitter after reading one of my blog posts. They wanted me to try out their “manliest” scale.

The scale, the Precision 550, which has a max capacity of 550 lbs, is a welcomed product in my journey.

I usually weigh in on Wednesdays in the afternoon at the gym. I usually try to not eat anything because I know I’m weighing in. This affects my training because then I’m starving during a workout.

I’d rather weigh in on Wednesday mornings. So, I really wanted a scale at the house but never got around to buying one.

I have this scale now.

I set it up yesterday even though I weighed in on Wednesday. I like it. It has a huge surface and I really like the blue scale display. I like that even keeps your weight on the screen so I can take pictures of my weight.

The scale retails for $59.95 and I’m really liking it. it’s actually on sale right now for $39.95 so you should go and buy one right now!

3. Ruhlman’s Twenty

I’m a huge fan of Michael Ruhlman. He’s a self taught cook out of Ohio and his books are always golden.

I have most of his books but Ruhlman’s Twenty is by far my favorite. Instead of just teaching you recipes like most of the other cookbooks, it teaches you to cook by techniques. Twenty techniques to be exact.

I started reading and trying different recipes out of this book. I forgot how fun this book was. If you’re a lover of food then I highly recommend any of Ruhlman’s books. This one and Ratio are my two favorites.

4. Spotify Daily Mix

I’ve been a Spotify user for years now and I never knew that the Daily Mix feature existed. I’m not even sure if it’s an old feature.

Daily Mix is a highly curated mix of all the songs that you like and other artist that you may like.

I discovered Daily Mix while I was at the gym and I just let the music play. I was in heaven.

It’s such a cool feature and I hope to discover many more new songs because of it.

5. Smucker’s Raspberry Preserves

I bought this Smucker’s Raspberry Preserves because I want to try something different in the grocery store.

I usually just have toast with butter spray. These Preserves are the bomb.

Both Angela and I really like it. I may have to buy several more bottle because we may run out too quick.
